Hike “Jūrtaka” – a Long-distance Hiking Route

Bernāti are a part of the E9 long-distance hiking route that goes along the Baltic coast. Total length – ~ 1200 km (~ 1.5 million steps):  580 km in Latvia, 620 km in Estonia. The Baltic Coastal Hiking Route begins at the Lithuanian-Latvian border in the village of Nida in Latvia and ends at the port of Tallinn in Estonia. The route can be hiked in both directions. The trail is divided by days and difficulty levels, which will allow everyone to choose the most suitable distance.

  • The route: Nida – Bernati – Liepaja – Ventspils – Kolkasrags – Jurmala – Riga – Saulkrasti – Ainaži – Ikla – Pärnu – Virtsu – Lihula – Haapsala – Paldiski – Tallinn.
  • Territory: Baltic Sea coast.
  • Time required for completion all of it: ~ 60 days. Experienced hikers can do this in a shorter time.
  • You will be able to see the old towns of 2 capitals which have been granted UNESCO status – Rīga and Tallinn.
  • Highest peaks: Rannamoisa cliffs (Rannamõisa pank) – 35 m above sea level, Pakri lighthouse viewing platform together with the height of Pakri cliff height: ~ 70 m above sea level, located in Estonia.
  • More than 500 natural, historical and cultural objects to see. On the way you will see some high dunes, sparsely populated places, untouched nature, quiet beaches, white singing sand, ambers, unforgettable sunsets, fishing villages, lighthouses.
  • The Islands of Estonia adjoin the Baltic Coastal Hiking Route: Kihnu, Saaremaa, Muhu, Hiiumaa, Vormsi, Osmusaare.

Varēsi skatīt divas galvaspilsētas, kuru vecpilsētām ir piešķirts UNESCO status – Rīgu un Tallinu.
Augstākie punkti: Rannameizas klintis (Rannamõisa pank) – 35 m v.j.l., Pakri bākas skatu platforma kopā ar Pakri klinšu augstumu: ~ 70 m v.j.l., kas atrodas Igaunijā.

Apskatāmi > 500 dabas, vēstures un kultūras objekti. Ceļā sastapsi stāvkrastus, mazapdzīvotas vietas, mazskartu dabu, klusas pludmales, baltās dziedošās smiltis, dzintarus, neaizmirstamus saulrietus, zvejniekciemus, bākas.
Jūrtakai piekļaujas Igaunijas salas: Kihnu, Sāmsala, Muhu, Hījumā, Vormsi, Osmusāre.

Baltijas jūras Kurzemes rietumu piekrasti Latvijā sauc par dižjūru. No Jūrtakas sākuma – Latvijas–Lietuvas robežstaba – līdz Kolkasragam jūras krasts visbiežāk ir smilšains. Dižjūras posms ir vismazāk apdzīvotā piekrastes daļa Latvijā, tajā atrodas trešā lielākā Latvijas pilsēta – Liepāja. Starp Pāvilostu un Sārnati jūras krastā slejas stāvkrasti. Ciemi ir klusi un maz apdzīvoti, vairums iedzīvotāju šeit pavada tikai vasaras.
